About Klario

Klario is a novel nutritional drink designed to support complete recovery during hypoglycemic episodes. Each bottle contains 15g of fast-acting carbohydrate alongside adaptive energy sources — beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) and lactate — which the brain can utilise via alternative metabolic pathways during and after a hypo.
Standard glucose-only products correct blood sugar but do not address the post-hypo brain energy deficit. Klario’s MESH™ (Multi-Energy Substrate for Hypoglycemia) system combines fast-acting carbohydrate with adaptive energy sources that bypass the brain’s glucose energy bottleneck, supporting faster and more complete functional recovery.
Yes. Each bottle contains 15g of fast-acting carbohydrates, equivalent to standard hypo treatment guidelines, alongside BHB and lactate as adaptive energy sources.
Klario is taken in the same way as other standard 15g fast-acting carbohydrate treatments. Patients should consume one bottle at the onset of a hypo (blood sugar is below 4 mmol/L), wait 15 minutes, then recheck blood glucose. For those using a hybrid closed-loop (HCL) system or pump, a smaller dose may be required; we recommend following the specific guidance provided by your clinical team.

Clinical Evidence

Yes. Klario has been evaluated in two randomized clinical studies conducted at a UK research center, analyzing more than 1,000 real-world hypoglycemic episodes. Studies used continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in a real-world setting, comparing Klario directly against standard of care glucose gel.
Compared to standard glucose-only treatment, Klario was associated with: a 27% reduced risk of a recurrent hypo following treatment; higher post-hypoglycemia Time-in-Range in the 2 hours following a treated hypo; less time spent in extreme highs and lows per week; and patient-reported improvements in brain fog, fatigue, and return to normal activities.
The pivotal clinical study has been published in Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism (2026). Further publications are available in the Latest Publications section of this site.
Klario’s MESH™ formula and research program have been developed in collaboration with leading clinicians and researchers in diabetes, metabolic and translational medicine, and patients. The pivotal trial was led by Professor David Russell-Jones from the University of Surrey. Details of the scientific advisory board are available in the People Behind the Research section of this site.
